Heston Blumenthal is back in Top Chef! Find out what challenge the British chef will be giving candidates this week.
[Mis à jour le 18 avril 2022 à 09h12] Already very present during season 12, Heston Blumenthal is back in the season 13 of Top Chef. If last year the British chef had asked the candidates to create a dish with flavors that are almost impossible to associate, the chef of the fat duck will launch a seemingly much simpler challenge this year.
This Thursday 21 April Heston Blumenthal will indeed ask candidates to impress him with a single potato† An apparently simple test, but one that can make it difficult for the young chefs who are still in the running. Indeed, the Briton is an expert in this field, known in particular for imagining a triple preparation in order to obtain perfect fries. Candidates who fail to qualify at this event will have to face Gilles Goujon’s challenge, but will also face Lilian and Thibaut, who come back to try to re-enter the competition.
Biography of a chef apart
Born on May 27, 1966 in Wycombe, a small town 31 miles west of London, Heston Blumenthal owes a lot to French cuisine! At the age of 15, his father decided to take him to the Alpilles, to Oustau de Baumanière, three stars in the Michelin guide. A shock. “I felt like a whole new world opened up to me. I felt like I was in Wonderland† The kitchen, the lavender, the crickets, the landscapes, it was a whole! † he entrusts Food & Sens. Since 2020, the chef lives in Provence a few minutes from the Provencal restaurant…
Since this experience, Heston Blumenthal has never left the kitchen and his apprenticeship at the restaurant Le Manoir, in Oxford, then headed by French chef Raymond Blanc, allows him to acquire all the basics. Passionate about science, the autodidact is passionate about molecular cuisine and experiments with new revolutionary techniques in his own restaurant.
