La Liga, Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga…where are we in the title race?

While Paris Saint-Germain is heading straight for a tenth French championship title, the final sprint is also started in the four other major European championships. When the dice seem to have been rolled in Germany and Spain, the tension over the winner’s name remains intact in England and Italy.

Neck and neck between Liverpool and Manchester City in England

Two teams broke away at the top of the Premier League table. In all likelihood, it will be a match between the two clubs that have won the last four announced championships: Manchester City (74 points) and Liverpool (73 points). While there are still seven games left for each of the two formations, it is the Mancunians who currently have a small point ahead of them to become their own successors.

But in 2022, Liverpool will be the best team in the Premier League (32 out of 36 points in 12 games, including no defeats). However, Manchester City appeared to be on their own and there was no sign of such a fight. On January 15, the Citizens were thirteen points ahead of their number two after their success against Chelsea (1-0).

Back in the Skyblues escapement, the Reds missed the chance to get past in their confrontation with City on April 10 (2-2). And now the calendar seems more favorable to Pep Guardiola’s players. The highest-ranked opponent they will face is West Ham, currently seventh, when the Reds have two more big teams to take on: Manchester United and Tottenham, who offered Manchester City’s scalp in February.

In Spain, Really on an armchair

The defending champion is on track to keep his crown. Real Madrid is on a royal road. Six games from the end of their season, the Merengues are fifteen points ahead of second-place Barcelona, who have a late game to play. They should not win any of their final meetings of 2021-2022 and should fill Barca, Sevilla FC or Atlético de Madrid on their side.

In other words, the masses are said. If there was any hope of a comeback on the FC Barcelona side, it disappeared on Monday, April 18, with an embarrassing defeat at home to Cadiz (0-1). But in any case, it will be necessary to wait until April 24 to see Real Madrid mathematically validate its title and reward the exceptional season of Karim Benzema, already author of 25 goals and 11 assists in La Liga.

In Italy, a very tight fight between the two Milan

repeated Bis. Just like last season, the title race will be played between Milanese clubs. AC Milan (71 points), which has been hoping for a first crown for eleven years, is two points ahead of competitor Inter (69 points). But the Nerazzurri can continue thanks to their late game against Bologna on April 27, if they win. The two competitors play a duel at a distance, each with a big test against a Roman team: Inter will cross paths with Roma on April 23 and Milan with Lazio on April 24.

Just behind in the standings, Naples didn’t say the last word, but missed valuable points by failing to beat AS Roma on the 33rd day and allowing the equalizer in extra time (1-1). Napoli are four points behind the leaders. Juventus, meanwhile, believed they could regain their throne, but are nearly out of the race for the second year in a row (-8 points).
