In August 2023, the two variants of the commercial employee training will be changed, with substantive coordination and for some an extra foreign language.
For the world of economics, the apprenticeship reform of commercial employee CFC or AFP (formerly AFP office assistant) is as urgent as necessary, even if it was slightly revised ten years agos, according to the State Secretariat for Training, Research and Innovation (Sefri)† “they need a new generation that is aware of the needs of the modern working world”. Young people see this training “as a springboard to enter the labor market directly”.
The reflection was launched in 2017. The results of the official hearing that Sefri held between January and April 2021 show that the review of apprenticeships for commercial workers has generally been favorably received by the cantons, the social partners and other interested parties. circles. At CFC level, a concept has been developed for professional maturity during apprenticeship (MP 1).
Next Monday, August 16, the Sefri publie Ithe regulations corresponding to the two professions. According to the new commercial training, in the three training locations (training company, vocational school, intercompany courses), “the objectives are based on the operational skills described in the training plan and are linked in a more coherent way”. Teaching general culture is integrated in the learning areas.
Thanks to this approach, young people also acquire general knowledge that is useful to them outside the professional context. The use of operational skills as a frame of reference is now the norm in vocational training. The profession of commercial employee is one of the last to switch to this training model.
Strengths and expectations
The distinction that is now made between profile B (basic training) and profile E (further training) has not had a conclusive effect on the labor market. The new apprenticeship system makes it easier to take into account the strengths of students and the expectations of companies.
Young people see each other by conyouagainWe always offer the possibility to prepare for professional maturity during the apprenticeship (MP 1) or after the apprenticeship (MP 2). Canton-specific implementation forms remain possible, as well as initial training at school of businesswith a long internship.
Languages: green light from Guy Parmelin
In terms of language skills, the CFC students will now learn two foreign languages. Until now, only one was required in profile B, either a second national language or English. From August 2023, a second or third national language will be added, or even English.
“The teaching of foreign languages is based on an innovative and promising concept,” says Sefri. Young people with less language skills can also learn a second foreign language at CFC level. This new concept was approved by the President of the Confederation and Head of the Department of Economy, Education and Research, Guy Parmelin.
Last June, the vocational training partners had decided to postpone the entry into force of the reform, which was initially planned for the summer of 2022, to the summer of 2023. This will give cantons, vocational schools and training companies “more time for implementation”, says Sefri.
The vocational training partners established the National Coordination Body (ONC) in the summer of 2020, which is responsible for implementing reforms in the sales professions and the apprenticeship of commercial employees. Representatives of the 19 training and examination sectors, vocational schools and cantons were involved in the whole process.
