Château Hôtel Mont Royal: like a fairytale castle, spa hotel in Chantilly (30 min. from Paris by car)

One of our favorite spa hotels near Paris: in the heart of the Chantilly forest, 50 minutes north of Paris, hides a castle, a former listed hunting and music house in 18th century style. Designed by composer Fernand Halphen, it has been transformed into a 5-star hotel. Located on a hill, its 108 rooms and suites, its two restaurants and its spa crown 5 acres of woods and ponds.
The forest on both sides. The tone is set from a place a bit out of time, almost mysterious, until you reach the base of the castle. From the beginning, we dive into a sophisticated universe, which we discover through small touches.
Guided to your room or your suite, the same impression of space and brightness. Whether they hide under the beautiful beamed roofs, or in the historic wing of the hotel, with a magnificent height under their molded ceiling, the same sense of opulence. The decoration takes on a seasoned classicism enhanced by a few more contemporary tones: the toile de Jouy responds cheerfully to the wise stripes, beautiful paintings soften the dark wooden furniture.
The wellness area opens onto a great indoor pool. Framed by columns draped in heavy curtains, punctuated by sofas, the pool is topped by two imposing black chandeliers, giving the room a…royal look. Both the swimming pool and the adjacent jacuzzi are pleasantly heated. And when the weather is nice, you can make use of the sun loungers on the outdoor terrace. The experience continues in the sauna: 12 m2 in hemlock wood and overlooking the forest, for an immersion just as conducive to relaxation. It is important that these areas remain accessible from 7 am to 11 pm for the swimming pool and from 9 am to 10 pm for the sauna. The atmosphere is even more subdued in the Tiara suite Spa, on the 4th floor of the hotel. Classic massages based on essential oils, signature rituals with natural products and Carita facials are given here, solo or duo. And since well-being also includes sport: the 70 m2 gym and Technogym® equipment, the tennis court, the mountain bike or running routes selected by the hotel demonstrate the establishment’s will to satisfy its customers.
The former music room now plays a different score. The Opera has indeed become the main restaurant where Chef Benoist Rambaud shares his taste for a cuisine that combines classic and refinement with a taste for products from the vegetable garden and from producers of his own selection. As for the Stradivarius, it has more than one chord: the old library has its tall bookcases strewn with old books, comfortable armchairs have been pushed in by the fireplace to sip a cocktail, tables have been set up for earlier enjoyment or in summer fall in love with the large terrace with a colorful salad.

Joigny, a pretty art town 1h30 from Paris and nestled on the banks of the Yonne, La Côte Saint-Jacques & Spa, a Relais & Châteaux where the same family has succeeded each other since 1945. Known and recognized for its top cuisine – noted by the Michelin guide since 1971! – the establishment is a real gastronomic stopover: the 2 Michelin macaroons honor both the signature dishes of the previous chef Michel Lorain and the creativity of his son Jean-Michel. The hotel itself is a 5-star hotel, with 32 rooms and suites, each with its own personality. Karine Lorain, the owner, took care of this rather contemporary and colorful interior, underlined by the architecture of the house. And the must of the rooms and suites, these beautiful views of the soothing river. The 800 m2 spas have found their refuge: out of sight but flooded with light, the indoor pool, heated to 29°C, is extended by a charming garden on the river’s edge. We go down one floor to enjoy a treatment. Paoma, Equatoria and Baïja: the brands are carefully selected. And for a romantic moment, we opt for a treatment for two with a Japanese Ofuro bath.
We love: the VIP room with hammam and spa to privatize with tea time or champagne.

Champillon, a small village 10 minutes from Epernay and less than an hour by TGV from Paris. And an idyllic place to set up a prestigious hotel above the vineyards of Champagne. 10,000 m2 of this luminous limestone, for a building of supposed modernity and dotted with bay windows. We are a long way from the coach house – of which only a few walls remain – where Napoleon would have housed in his day! The interior spaces of the Royal Champagne reveal an atmosphere that exudes a luxury of beautiful sobriety, barely fueled by cascades of chandeliers, soft tones hardly disturbed by bright colors: Sybille de Margerie has also sublimated its 47 rooms and suites with the beauty of custom furniture, the declination of beige from rosé to champagne. Even in the 1500 m2 spa, serenity is welcome. The infinity pool – heated to 28° – puts on a show behind huge bay windows. A solarium for the summer, as does this second pool that comes alive on sunny days. Also modest on the ground floor, the atmosphere of the 9 treatment cabins for Biologique Recherche facial treatments and Kos massages. Hammam, sauna and fitness room with personalized coaching have also found their place. We enjoy the modern, light and inventive cuisine of chef Jean-Denis Rieubland that this MOF offers in the gastronomic restaurant Le Royal, rewarded with a Michelin macaron, but also at Bellevue, the bistronomic table.
We love: at the weekend a Shiatsu master gives tailor-made massages: the tension is gone!

Airelles Palace of Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle, spa hotel worthy of a palace in Versailles (20 min. from Paris)

Le Grand Contrôle is the hotel of superlatives. A stone’s throw from Paris, the establishment managed by the Airelles group has established itself no less than in the national domain of Versailles, opposite the Orangerie. The building, the work of architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart in 1681, was designed by Christophe Tollemer, and with such rigor and attention to historical detail. The 13 rooms and suites take each guest back to the time of Marie-Antoinette for decoration and offer all the comforts of the 21st century. With Alain Ducasse as head chef, the cuisine – which has just been awarded a Michelin star – is a feast, from breakfast to five-course dinner inspired by the court, always in a truly royal setting. A wonder that continues in the Valmont spa which, in addition to an indoor pool with a refined decor, offers a hammam, a sauna and, of course, a range of treatments from the Swiss brand. Finally, visits to the Trianon, the Hall of Mirrors or the Grands Appartements are organized only for guests, in a private, exceptional form.
We love: Pastry chef Aymeric Pinard’s desserts, praised by the 2022 Michelin Guide.

Les Hauts de Loire, Relais et Châteaux hotel and spa about 2 hours from Paris (TGV Onzain or A10)

Admittedly, we are moving a little further from Paris, but we do not regret the 2h30 journey to arrive at the Relais & Châteaux Les Hauts de Loire. Buried in 70 acres of woodland, vineyards and lakes, this H8 Collection property is an ode to tranquility. Two buildings for two ghosts, not that far apart. We first enter this elegant hunting lodge where the welcome is imbued with courtesy in perfect harmony with the furnishings: classic and warm with some more contemporary touches here and there. The outbuilding plays its role as a Solognote farmhouse with more rural accents, but just as tasteful. Taste: This is often why people come to discover the Hauts de Loire. Two restaurants, one with two stars, both managed by Dominique Pépin. The chef distils a cuisine of great finesse that emphasizes carefully selected products from the vegetable garden and those from local producers. As for the Spa, it takes on the cheerful colors of the brand of treatments distilled in the cabins: Clarins. In other words, the quality is there. Hammam and sauna, herbal tea room and product bar are also part of it. As for the swimming pool, it finds refuge in the 70 hectares of park and forest, as well as a tennis court: relaxation can thus be combined with more sporty moments.
We love: the weekend cooking workshops, to take a group or private lesson with the former chef of the hotel, Rémy Giraud.
